Polish zielony and Lithuanian žalias: Prototypes and Connotations

The paper presents the results of contrastive semantic analysis Polish lexeme zielony ‘green’ and its Lithuanian equivalent žalias. research based on methodology R. Tokarski K. Waszakowa is aimed at comparing collocability Pol. / Lith. žalias with names various objects phenomena (both in literal figurative senses) including identification prototype references connotative meanings. has illustrated that both languages, interpreted primarily as color grass or other plants, but for some shades green, certain minerals (such emerald malachite) can be considered a pattern. Common prototypical clearly motivate similar symbolic cultural values terms. have ranges use develop quite convergent meanings, which there are slightly more Lithuanian. In association green young plants creates following connotational meanings: ‘young’, ‘fresh’, ‘unripe’, ‘immature’, ‘inexperienced’, ‘healthy’, ‘ecological’.
